The 2013 Traverse City Terry Fox Kids’ Run will be held this Sunday the 15th at the GT Civic Center. Runners are to meet at Kids’ Cove at 9 for 1 or 2 laps. Not a race! No entry fee either but donations to the Terry Fox Foundation for cancer research are encouraged. Although this is a kids’ run, big people are welcome too!
Terry Fox is a Canadian hero. After losing his leg to cancer at the age of 19, he began his Marathon of Hope, a cross-Canada run to raise money and awareness for cancer research. He ran 143 days covering 5,373 km (3,339 mi) on one leg! Terry died in 1981 while running near Thunder Bay, Ontario but his efforts resulted in a lasting, worldwide legacy.
The Terry Fox Run is an annual non-competitive charity event held around the world. The event is held every year on the second Sunday following Labor Day. Since 1981, it has raised $500 million dollars worldwide for cancer research.
Join us as we run, have fun, remember Terry and raise some money for a great cause…plus we just might go get some recovery donuts after!
