WHO WE ARE

Traverse City's Collection and Composting Service

We are a compost collection and delivery service that uses bicycles with trailers to haul food scraps from your kitchen to local composting sites.

Once the scraps have evolved into finished compost in our piles, it is returned to local soils through donations to community gardens and sales to households for use in their yards, pots, gardens and beds.

At Carter's Compost, we believe that the resilience and beauty of our community is inseparable from the health of the land we live on. Transforming our food waste into fertile compost is one small way we can collectively nurture the land in the midst of global environmental crisis, mitigate greenhouse gas emissions, and sequester carbon in the soil.

WASTE DIVERSION

Our bucket pickups and drop-offs divert your household food scraps from traditional landfills to our piles.

COLLECTION SERVICE

Collections from the neighborhood are combined with other organic materials, and with the help of some wormie friends, let nature take the wheel.

NUTRIENT-RICH COMPOST

After several months the compost is ready to go into gardens, beds and pots, providing plants with a natural, nourishing soil.

HOW IT WORKS

Residential Kitchen Scrap Pickup and Drop-off:

Carter's makes it easy to start giving your kitchen waste a 2nd (or 3rd!) life. With a subscription, there is so much to look forward to:

We connect you with a clean bucket for your house
You skip the trash can and put kitchen scraps right in the bucket
We pickup the contents of your bucket, or you dump it at a drop-off site
Your scraps are nurtured to return to nature in our piles
Pickup subscribers have the option to get a full bucket of compost each season!

Finished Compost:

Full buckets of nutritious compost are available for sale for use in your garden, pots, beds, lawns, hanging plants, boxes... you get the point! This soil amendment nourishes the soil so that your plants flourish, maintain moisture and promote aeration.
